We are counting down to Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 5 with a free digital comic every day.
It’s pretty exciting to find a long out-of-print issue like Frank Einstein / Madman’s first ever appearance in Madman: For the Record. While Frank is not as fully fleshed-out as in Madman: The Oddity Odyssey (which we posted last week) in this issue, it’s interesting to see the rough idea for the character forming in Allred’s head.

Free Comic Book Day is coming up on Saturday, May 5! Each day, we post a different (free) digital comic leading up to the date.
Our first webcomic is Ursula Vernon’s Digger, a striking, black-and-white story featuring the adventures of an engineer wombat.
The Onion’s A.V. Club writes, “The backstory is both rewarding and highly necessary; Vernon’s tangled tale of an engineer wombat who stumbles into a world full of tribal warrior hyenas and oracular slugs sounds like grist for a children’s picture book, but it rapidly takes on an adult gravity and complexity that doesn’t in any way hinder its charming, wry, thoroughly unique humor.”

The countdown to  Free Comic Book Day (Saturday, May 5) continues! Every day, we are posting a different (free) digital comic leading up to the event.
Today, check out a free digital copy of Warren Ellis’ Planetary #1, which you can read online at comixology.com or download through the Comixology app for Android or for iOS (universal app for iPhone & iPad).
Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, FreakAngels) is always fantastic and I once heard a clerk at NYC’s Forbidden Planet describe this book as his “love letter to science fiction.”
